World Court to hear Nicaragua's genocide case against Germany

Tehran, IRNA - The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has scheduled hearings on April 8 and 9 to address Nicaragua's case against Germany for its military aid to Israel and facilitating the regime's ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Nicaragua brought the case to the ICJ earlier this month, seeking emergency measures to halt Berlin's military support to Israel and to reverse its decision on defunding the UN Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA).

“The hearings will be devoted to the request for the indication of provisional measures contained in Nicaragua’s Application,” the ICJ said in a statement.

Nicaragua accuses Germany of breaching the 1948 Genocide Convention and the 1949 Geneva Conventions by supporting the Israeli regime's actions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

German government spokesperson Wolfgang Buechner said that Germany will present its arguments in court, emphasizing that Berlin believes the case is unwarranted.

More than 31,500 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the Israeli regime launched its genocidal war on the besieged territory early in October last year.

UN experts and international aid organizations say the Israeli regime is deliberately starving Gaza's population by using hunger as a weapon of war.
